Health And Safety Policies

As is common in most jurisdictions now than ever before, the Australian government has put in place various Health And Safety Policies aimed at promoting health and safe practices at workplaces. This is with the aim of eradicating or minimizing injury incidents at workplaces and ensuring that employees work in healthy environments not dangerous to their health. Under the various policies are varied legislations and regulations that both employers and employees have to adhere to.

The policies do not only address the issue of health and safety of employees at workplaces. They extend to cover the overall environment. All employers are obligated to ensure that the work that their employees carry out is not detrimental to the overall environment. All waste must be treated appropriately before disposal. Some of Australia's Health And Safety Policies include:

Policy on workplace health and safety - This policy places many responsibilities on employers. All employers are required to make their workplaces as safe as possible by having in place safety gadgets for use in undertaking some kinds of work. In addition to having such in place, employers are required to implement suitable health and safety programs for the benefit of their employees. The policy also places some responsibility n employees, requiring them to undertake work while adequately protected. This is by way of having appropriate clothing and gear. Employers are obligated to provide these at no cost to employees.

As a rule, all employers are required to develop their own Health And Safety Policies that suit their workplaces. This is because no all workplaces have the same health and safety challenges. Employees must be informed on the policies to be able to play their part in increasing their safety.

Policy on Environment protection - This policy aims to make the environment safe and requires all employers to ensure that their activities do not negatively affect the environment. Construction and mining companies in particular are obligated to ensure that the machineries used are friendly to the environment. Any excavation works done must be addressed to eliminate any danger that such definitely cause.

Although Australia's Occupational Safety and Health agency is mandated with the task of ensuring that all workplaces are safe for the benefit of employees, other agency are available that ensure that all Health And Safety Policies are strictly followed by both employees, employers and that the overall environment is not degraded in any way. Apart from the national agencies, the different territories also enforce the policies.
